Health and safety
Our shared value

Safety is
our top priority
Occupational health and safety is key to our joint success and a primary focus at Equans Switzerland.
Occupational safety rules are non-negotiable for us – the physical and mental integrity of all employees and other people who work in or use our buildings is our top priority.
But safety is more than just an aspect of our professionalism – it is the calling card that underscores our sense of responsibility. We make no distinction between management, employees and customers here – our safety culture encompasses the whole company and concerns everyone. Together, we create a safe environment in which occupational health and safety is paramount.

Our top priority: don’t allow a single accident
For Equans Switzerland, acting responsibly means that we adopt a forward-thinking and considered approach in every stage of every process, enabling us to identify hazardous situations and sources of danger early and minimise risks.
Responsibility as a major obligation
We assume full responsibility for all the services we offer. In the mandate and project preparation phase, we analyse risks and determine the measures required. We record these in a health and safety plan (H&S plan). All our subcontractors and temporary staff undertake to comply with Equans Switzerland’s health and safety regulations.
Improving together through monitoring and training
Safety is also part of management responsibility at Equans Switzerland. Training and raising awareness among all employees and suppliers are key factors in the successful continuous improvement of our safety culture. Every incident is clarified, analysed and discussed with a member of the management team. We record the results in a HIPO report (high-potential situations) and actively communicate these to our employees.
12 Golden Rules
Your safety is important to us
We promote safety awareness in all employees and involve them in identifying risks in the workplace.
At the same time, we ensure that the necessary resources are available to all. To this end, Equans Switzerland has defined 12 golden rules and developed its own safety cards for employees.
1. Work prep, risk assessment, pre-start meeting
2. Drugs and alcohol
3. PPE and tools
4. Working at height
5. Hazardous energy
6. Traffic, machines and vehicles
7. Lifting operations
8. Working in containers and confined spaces
9. Explosions, fire hazards and hot work
10. Stability of excavations and construction aids
11. Health
12. Stop! Watch out for each other!
Systematic occupational health and safety
our measures
At Equans Switzerland, our priority is creating a safe working environment in which all employees feel comfortable and protected.
We implement targeted measures to ensure that occupational health and safety is actively put into practice and encouraged.
Risk management from the outset
As early as the planning phase, we analyse potential hazards and develop targeted protective measures, which we set out in a comprehensive occupational health and safety plan.
Training and instruction
Regular occupational health and safety training and instruction for all employees – at least once a month in the team and once a year during Global Safety Week – keep the topic high on the agenda.
Safety obligation for subcontractors
All subcontractors and temporary employees undertake to comply with our occupational health and safety regulations. Before commencing work, a supervisor will inform them about hazards and emergency measures.
Identify hazards and say STOP
Our employees are required to say STOP immediately in dangerous situations – regardless of whether the danger affects them or someone else. When in doubt, safety always takes precedence over work.
Responsible leadership
At Equans Switzerland, occupational health and safety is a management responsibility. Managers are responsible for ensuring that safety standards are met and codes of conduct are actively put into practice.
Safe work equipment
Safety is not possible without professional equipment. We provide our employees with safe, fully tested work equipment so that they can work safely and avoid accidents.
Lessons learnt
Our health and safety specialists immediately analyse and evaluate every accident that occurs on site. We use their findings to formulate recommended actions and inform our employees accordingly.
No compromises when it comes to safety
Safety is our top priority. We do all we can to create a safe working environment – because every accident we prevent is a win for everyone.
Health through motivation and satisfaction
Health and enjoyment at work are core values at Equans Switzerland. Our in-house health management programme systematically raises awareness of physical and mental well-being.
