Since 2004, the Swiss ventilation standard SWKI VA104–01 has defined clear hygiene requirements for ventilation systems and appliances. These are considered state of the art and must be consistently implemented in planning, installation, operation and maintenance.
The standard applies to all ventilation systems that supply rooms or areas in which people are regularly present – whether for more than two hours per day or more than 30 days per year. Responsibility for compliance with the hygiene requirements lies with the operator or maintainer, who is obliged to organise and carry out regular checks in order to fulfil their duty of care.
